scs: 2” x 2” bathing terrace
The   location   of   this   project   is   in   Nusfjord,   one   of   the   best   preserved   cod   fishing   villages   in   Lofoten   and   now historically   protected.   It   has   been   converted   from   a   fishing   village   used   in   the   darkest   winter   months   to   a   summer tourist   resort.   The   design   of   the   2”   x   2”   bathing   platform   is   a   re-interpretatio   in   timber   of   the   massive   rock landscape   on   which   it   sits.   The   ondulating   terrace   contains   a   sun-deck   with   various   bathing   facilities,   including   a sauna   and   a   hot   tub.   The   project   faces   the   mouth   of   the   fjord   and   in   winter   is   battered   by   waves   which   pass   over the   roofs   of   the   adjoining   buildings.   The   uplift   force   of   these   waves   was   countered   by   a   massive   underbuilding structure and a terrace which is 50% open to let the water through and thus offer as little resistance as possible.
